About Vaginal Laxity

Vaginal laxity or looseness is quite different from vaginal prolapse. Your vaginal tissues becoming loose is Vaginal Laxity while Vaginal Prolapse is when your vagina sags out of its position.

Symptoms

  • Decreased libido and sexual function
  • Decreased vaginal lubrication
  • Lower sexual satisfaction; difficult to reach orgasm during sexual intercourse
  • Urinary incontinence [leakage]
  • Pain during intercourse [dyspareunia]

Causes

  • Vaginal childbirth – during this process, your vaginal walls are over-stretched which can reduce the tightness and sensitivity of the vaginal area
  • Ageing – most of your body tissues contain a collagen substance, which gives elasticity and strength to your body structure. As you age, loss of collagen makes your skin and tissues, including your vaginal tissues thinner
  • Menopause – estrogen is related to the growth, maintenance, and repair of vaginal tissues
  • Being excessively sexually active
  • Vaginal trauma

Treatment

  • Kegel exercises can help to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles and treat mild vaginal laxity
  • Vaginoplasty surgery is tightening your vaginal muscles and loose soft muscles, resulting in rebuilding your vaginal walls. Note that such a surgery is invasive and has its risks
