Aztreonam is a monobactam antibiotic with strong activity against aerobic gram-negative bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. The 2 g dose is used in severe infections and provides enhanced gram-negative coverage—especially in patients with penicillin or cephalosporin allergies.
