Fluconazole is synthetic triazole broad spectrum antifungal agent, which inhibits 14-alpha-sterol-demethylase enzyme and hence blocks synthesis of ergosterol an important component of fungal cell membrane. Fluconazole's spectrum of activity includes most Candida species, Cryptococcus neoformans, some dimorphic fungi, dermatophytes.
